RYC Writing Essay Contest Winners
CONGRATULATIONS to the winners of the 1st Rizalian Youth Council essay writing contest on "Today's Youth: Embracing Heritage and Charting the Future": 1st: Röveey Anne Pajarillo, Waipahu HS ($500); 2nd: Athena Abadilla, Waimea HS, Kauai ($300); and 3rd: Andrea Lyn Mateo, Waipahu (HS), ($100). In addition to the cash prizes, the winners also received a certificate of recognition.
The essay entries were "blind-rated," with the judges not knowing the names and schools of the writers of each entry. We like to thank the judges: Dr. Serafin Colmenares, Jr., author and former director of the Hawaii Office of Language Access; Ethel Alikpala Ward, East-West Center scholar & alumna and retired DOE teacher; and Courtney Takabayashi, writer and Language Arts instructor at the University of Hawaii-Leeward.
